Why is it so brown?

I love these things! I have only seen 2 on the road in my life.

How well does the suspension absorb the impact from huge yumps?

Brown on brown! It’s... so... beautiful!

Did you request brown?
Is it beyond comfortable?
Can you drop it off in north jersey for the weekend?

Holy shit thats pretty!
How did you manage to get that color combo?

How many people have you killed to get the resources to afford that?
* reads headline again*
Oh. Well, how many drugs did you sell to afford renting that?

How does being better than everyone else on the road feel?
![]() 11/23/2016 at 11:20 |

Have you driven the SL? If so, how does t compare. I get that they are marketed differently, and this has back seats, but they seem to serve a similar mission and clientele to me.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 11:32 |

Is it appropriately S-Class sized inside? Could a 6'4" person sit more than comfortably in the back seats?
![]() 11/23/2016 at 11:42 |
|
I have nothing to add except that that car is stunning. Even the wheels are perfect.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 18:07 |

SL is much sportier, less luxurious (but still very nice), inherit feels more closed-in and driver-centric. The S cabrio emphasizes luxury and comfort and has more space.

Thanks. I’m assuming based on your job that you’ve driven both, so I appreciate the response. I know it’s how they are on paper but sometimes reality is different
![]() 11/23/2016 at 19:45 |

Certainly have. The only Benzes made in the last twenty years I haven’t driven are an SLR, electric drive SLS, and portal axle G’s.

The photos don’t do it justice. In person it is one sleek machine.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:02 |

I reviewed the SL 500 three years ago, and was impressed with it but I’d take the S550 over it anyday. Although the back seat is kinda snug, it does leave the option of bringing passengers along. The Cabrio is a much sleeker machine and better looking imho.

LoL. Great find.

Because it’s Ruby Black metallic?
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:05 |

Very. Infintely adjustable, heated, cooled, massaging, and with the Airscarf to keep your neck from getting cold. The back seats are another story though.

I have a good relationship with M-B and have been reviewing their vehicles for 5 years.

No victims, no drugs. They gave it to me. Nice folks, those Mercedes people...
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:09 |

I asked very nicely.
Why the hell not?
Nope, I just took whatever showed up. In this case it was Ruby Black metallic.
Very comfortable. The seats are pretty amazing. It’s got 30k worth of options on it. That’s what my last new car cost.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:12 |

Hell no. Can’t even sit sideways because of the rear console. That’s the one thing that really surprised me. You’d think an S-class convert would have a decent size back seat, but it’s pretty tight if you’re sitting behind a long-legged driver. Like, uncomfortably so. I’m 6' so the seat is back pretty far, but to keep from crushing somebody I’d have to move the seat up quite a bit which wouldn’t be very comfy for me. I had my 5 year old twins in it last night, and they were squawking about their feet being crunched.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:17 |

It’s whatever Mercedes orders for press fleet vehicles. In this case it was Ruby Black metallic with the dark red top and saddle brown leather. I’d have gone with the beige top meself..
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:18 |

This is the first I’ve seen as it’s a brandy-new model, and I’m smitten.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:19 |

Absolutely. Heated, cooled, variable massaging, with the Airscarf. And a bazillion different adjustments.

I’m only better than everyone else on the road for a week. Then it’s back to my Town Car. Le sigh.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:21 |

Ruby Black metallic. It’s a great color - big improvement over the typical silver or grey I see on many/most Benzes.

Oy? Who the hell yumps a Mercedes?
![]() 11/23/2016 at 21:23 |

Jumping a Mercedes. Is that a thing?

its my standard question to any of these AMA about this car. I’m hoping that some day someone goes and launches one across a railroad crossing or over a hill or something like that
![]() 11/23/2016 at 22:43 |
|
Welp, seeing as I’d like Mercedes to keep giving me cars on occasion I don’t think I’ll be the one to answer this most important question.

i promise, i wont tell

If you drive it, they will jump.
![]() 11/24/2016 at 01:40 |

Indeed. Confirmed not brown. That’s actually a very interesting color. Not sure what else it would look good on, but it does seem to work for this car.

is it worth the money?

Mark Webber, kind of.

I love ruby black so so so much. Not as much as mocha black but still...
![]() 11/24/2016 at 12:48 |

It’s one of those colors that changes in different light. In direct sunlight it’s amazing. It’s overcast now, so it looks more like root beer.
![]() 11/24/2016 at 12:49 |
|
I don’t think he yumped it so much as he flew it.
![]() 11/24/2016 at 12:57 |
|
Dunno. Base price is $131k, sticker on this one is $161k. That’s a lotta cabbage for a 4-pax convert, and you can still go up from there with the AMG V8 or V12 options. I’d think BMW’s 650i convert is very comparable, and it starts @ $96k. That might get my money if I was looking in that segment.
![]() 11/24/2016 at 12:59 |

I’d have gone with the beige top meself. Ruby Black is like flip-flop; it changes due to light conditions. Right now it’s overcast so it looks like root beer.
